Box Score The Windsor Lancers Men's Hockey team earned their second consecutive victory with a hard fought 3-2 victory over the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday at Windsor Arena.
The win has major implications in the standings as the Lancers now leap frog past Guelph in the and sit in 6th place with a .500 record of 9-9-3.
On Saturday night, the Lancers got a jump on the Gryphons in the first period as they peppered goalie Andrew Loverock with 22 shots.
Brett Vandehogen and
Steve Ferry each scored on the power play in the first period to give Windsor the 2-0 lead.
Kyle Nishizaki and
Mark Thorburn both assisted on Vandehogen's beautiful tick-tac-toe goal.
Vandehogen added his second point of the night with an assist on Ferry's powerplay blast from the point.
Matt McCready also added an assist.
In the second
Mike Lombardi shelved a beautiful goal from the top of the circle after
Ryan Caicco won the draw cleanly onto Lombardi's stick.
The Gryphons finally got on the board in the third at the 13 minute marker as captain Kris Belan scored on the powerplay with assists going to Tim Priamo and Ken Peroff.
Guelph would add another one early in the third, again on the powerplay, as Zack Lillie went to the net strong to get his own rebound.
Jim Watt made 37 saves in the win for the Lancers second consecutive win.
Windsor will now host the Western Mustangs on Friday January 21st and the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday the 22nd. Both games are at 7:30pm at Windsor Arena.
