Lancer Women's Hockey back on home ice as they host Queen's and UOIT

The University of Windsor women's hockey program returns home this weekend for their first game at home of 2011.

The No.9 ranked Lancers have posted a 2-1 record in the New Year and currently sit in 6th in the OUA with 20 points.

In their last game the Lancers faced a tough opponent in the No. 6 ranked Brock Badgers (17-3). The Badgers got on the board early as Leigh Vanderveen put the puck past Lancer goalie Jamie Tessier

The Lancers would tie the game 1:07 into the second period when Candace Kourounis tallied her 7th goal of the season. After that the Badgers took over as they added another two goals to secure their 3-1 win.

The Lancers will look to get back on to the winning path as they take on the Queens Gaels Saturday and the UOIT Ridgebacks Sunday.

In the last meeting between the Blue & Gold and the Gaels, Queen's came away with a 3-0 win in Kingston. Coach Hunter's Lancers will look to even the score and use home ice to their advantage.

Sunday will see the Lancers take on the UOIT Ridgebacks who sit 7 points back of Windsor. This game will mark the rubber match as the season series is tied at one game apiece. The Lancers took the first game by a commanding score of 6-2 on home ice before dropping a 5-3 decision on the road.

The Lancers will look to take advantage of a struggling Ridgebacks team that has lost their past four games in a row, with their last win coming December 4th against the Lancers.

Game time is set for 4:10pm on both Saturday and Sunday at South Windsor Arena.
