Kourounis sparks Lancers to 5-3 victory over Queen's

Rookie continues to shine in home win over Gaels

Candace Kourounis' two goals sparked the Lancers to a 5-3 win over the Queen's Gaels.
Box Score The Windsor Lancers Women's Hockey team got a two-goal performance from rookie Candace Kourounis en route to an impressive 5-3 victory over the Queen's Gaels on Saturday at South Windsor Arena.

With the win, the Lancers move to 11-9 in conference play and sit only two points back of Toronto for fourht place with a game in hand.

Windsor used a pair of goals from rookie Kourounis and singles from Candace Rapchak, Stephanie Hebert and Manon Davis to dispatch of the Gaels at home.

Kourounis, a first year standout from Markham, Ontario, now has 9 goals and 21 points to sit tied for 6th overall in scoring on the OUA.

On Saturday, it was the Gaels who jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on the road before Candace Rapchak burried her 8th of the season to cut the lead to 3-1.

After another Queen's goal restored their two-goal advantage, Lancer Stephanie Hebert recorded her second of the season to make it 3-2.

The second period was dominated by Windsor as Kourounis netted her pair of goals at 1:09 and 13:19 of the frame to give her team the 4-3 lead.

Veteran Manon Davis would add her 8th goal of the season into an empty net late in the third to give the Lancers the 5-3 win.

Jamie Tessier made 30 saves in goal for Windsor to earn the victory.

The Lancers will be back in action on Sunday afternoon when they host the UOIT Ridgebacks at South Windsor Arena.
