Box Score The Lancer Women's Volleyball team dropped a five-setter to the Royal Miltary College Paladins on Saturday night at the St. Denis Centre.
The Lancers were edged out 3-2 by RMC by the scores of 25-18, 19-25, 16-25, 25-22, 15-10.
An early 6-point streak gave the Lancers the edge they needed to control the first set. Lancer defence kept the Paladins at bay (
Jessica Beltran 6 digs,
Brianna Balzer 6 digs,
Mackenzie Coyle 4 digs) and off the scoreboard. The Lancers managed to hold on to their lead, taking it 25-18.
Struggling in the second set, the Lancers were only able to score twice before the first technical time out. The Lancers were eventually able to bring the score within one at 17-16, but RMC responded quickly and pulled ahead, finishing the set 25-19.
Caught by errors and close line calls in the third set, the Lancers found themselves down by half a both technicals. RMC's late offensive streak sealed their lead and gave them the eventual 25-16 win.
Down by four at the first technical of the fourth set, the Lancers started to turn on the pressure. After taking a lead at 13-12 the Lancer's offence, powered by the setting of Fantuz, climbed quickly to a 3-point lead at the second technical. After a series of long, late set rallies,
Mackenzie Coyle ended it with an outside hit, giving the Lancers the 25-22 forth set victory.
Despite coming back from a large deficient mid-fifth set, the Lancers were unable to hold on eventually losing 15-10.
The Lancers return to the St. Denis Centre Friday, February 4th, where they will take on the Waterloo Warriors at 6pm.
