Box Score The No. 10 ranked Lancer women's hockey team opened the 2011 portion of the season with a 5-4 win over the Western Mustangs on Saturday afternoon in London.
After a hooking penalty on Windsor, Ellie Seedhouse converted a chance on the powerplay to put the Mustangs up 1-0 halfway through the first period.
The second period featured a flurry of goals as Windsor's
Lindsay Hoogstraten tied the game up three minutes into the period.
The Mustangs regained the lead just 43 seconds later as Taryn Brown would get her first goal of the year off a shot from the point.
Windsor took advantage of turnovers in their end scoring two quick goals from
Candace Kourounis and
Candace Rapchak 26 seconds apart at 15:29 and 15:03 to take a 3-2 lead.
Seedhouse got the Mustangs even at 3-3 halfway through the second period with a nice move in close.
A slap shot from the point from Windsor's
Julie Hamilton bounced past Ross after she initially saved it to make it 4-3 Lancers. The goal came on the power play just 48 seconds into the third.
The Mustangs responded as Carly Rolph came in on the rush and with a quick snap shot found the five hole and the back of the net to tie the game at 4-4 with nine minutes remaining.
Courtney Spoors scored a powerplay goal with 5:23 left in the third to make it a 5-4 game.
Windsor is back in action next Saturday when they travel to Guelph to take on the Gryphons at 2:00pm.
