The University of Windsor is in the twilight of the pre-season as they host the Waterloo Warriors tonight at the St. Denis Centre, and the St. Clair College Saints next Wednesday at the College.
Last weekend the Lancers defeated reigning OUA Champions McMaster University 3-2 (23-25, 25-22, 25-17, 19-25, 15-12) on Friday night in Hamilton Ontario.
“I had mixed emotions about the game,” commented head coach Shawn Lippert. “I am extremely pleased with the outcome but we as a team showed some chinks in our defensive armor that we are not feeling good about. We gave up a lot of points just on balls hitting the floor that no one reacted too. “
The Lancers looked sluggish in the first half of the match but had to put it together when it meant the most.
“In exhibition, coaches are trying to find good line ups and working on regular season strategies,” continued Lippert. “You get some real fluctuations in the scoreboard in pre-season. But when it goes to a fifth, injuries set aside, you still want to win. It was fun to see both these teams go for the win in the last set.”
The Lancers jumped out to lead with four unanswered points. McMaster fought back with 5 straight points from bad passing from the blue and gold. But after the poor start the Lancers took the lead and never looked back keeping a 2 point barrier between them and the Marauders.
Ryan Le had 14 kills with
Kyle Williamson 12 and Drew Foster had 8 digs.
Ryan Le led the team in serving with 4 aces.
The Lancers will play their last home game in the pre-season on Friday Oct. 14th at 7PM. It will be webcasted on the Lancer Volleyball Channel at 6:55PM.
Waterloo has a full returning roster from last year and are coming off a disappointing loss to Western last weekend. The Lancers will host the Warriors at the St. Denis Centre at 7PM.
