Gryphons come from behind to defeat Lancers

Box Score The Lancer women's hockey team let a three goal lead slip away and fell 5-4 to the Guelph Gryphons in overtime on Saturday at South Windsor Arena.

With the loss, the Lancers are now 1-1-1 on the season and sit in fourth place in the OUA.

Windsor jumped to a 3-0 lead after the first period with Bree Polci, Candice Chevalier, and Courtney Spoors all notching their first goals of the year.

Guelph would get on the board in the second with a power play goal before Candace Kourounis accepted a pass from Tania Mills and Adelena Tridico to again put Windsor up by three heading into the final period.

The Gryphons came out blazing in the third, chipping away at the Lancer lead throughout the period, eventually sending the game into extra time with just four seconds remaining in regulation.

In the overtime period, the Gryphons continued to pressure the Lancers and needed just one minute to score the game winner and complete their comeback.

Windsor will now host the Brock Badgers on Sunday afternoon at South Windsor Arena at 4:10pm.
