With the hiring of interim head coach
Lucas Hodgson, the Lancer women's volleyball team enters a new era in 2011-12 with a fresh outlook that will hopefully culminate with a return to the post season in 2012.
Coach Hodgson and the Lancers open their season on the road this weekend as they head up to McMaster to take on the Marauders in their season opener on Friday night, before heading over to Toronto on Saturday to face the 2010-11 OUA semi-finalist York Lions.
The Lancers completed a successful pre-season that saw them face some strong OUA opponents, including the OUA champion Western Mustangs. Windsor took two matches from the Mustangs, giving the team a huge confidence boost after a poor overall finish last year.
Windsor is coming off a 4-15 campaign that saw them finish in last place in the OUA West division.
The Lancers will rely heavily on veterans
Ana Vrcelj and
Kaila Seguin for the offence attack, along with first time starting setter Jessica Sheply. 2010-11 OUA all-rookie team member
Brianna Balzer will also be looked at to step up her game and grow into her role on the court.
Incoming rookies
Hannah Robson and
Taylor Fitzgerald will be vying to make an immediate impact to help the team meet their goal of making the playoffs.
Following their weekend on the road, the Lancers will open their home campaign next Friday night when they host the Brock Badgers at 6:00pm at the St. Denis Centre.
