Box Score 2 The Lancer women's hockey team split a pair of road games this weekend with a win over the UOIT Ridgebacks before falling to the Queen's Gaels on Saturday.
With the split, Windsor is 3-2-1in OUA action and hold the fourth place spot in league standing.
After a scoreless first period against UOIT,
Alyssa Baldin put the Lancers ahead 1-0 at 5:14 of the second period with her sixth goal of the season. Assists went to
Kayla Dodson and
Candace Rapchak.
Just a minute and a half later,
Krysten Bortolotti gave Windsor a two goal lead with an unassisted goal.
UOIT's Jill Morillo scored their lone goal of the game on the power play at 13:30 of the period to make it a one goal game.
With one minute remaining in regulation, UOIT pulled their goalie in favour of an extra attacker in attempt to tie the game. However, Rapchak spoiled that plan with an empty net goal to secure the win for Windsor.
On Saturday at Queen's, the first period was a back and forth affair. The Lancers opened the scoring on a goal from
Jenny MacKnight. However, two minutes later Morgan McHaffie responded for Queen's with her first of the game coming on the power play.
The Lancers struck right back with a goal from
Annie Armstrong on their own power play to take a 2-1 lead. McHaffie scored her second of the game 29 seconds later to even things at two
A shorthanded marker from
Courtney Spoors gave the Lancers a 3-2 lead heading into the second period.
The Gaels did not waste any time getting back on the scoresheet in the third as the puck bounced to Alex Cieslowski who went off the cross bar and in on Lancer starting netminder
Karlyle Robinson evening the score at 3-3.
The game would be decided in the third period with the Gaels coming out on top. A shot from Alana Smith in on net was tipped to the top corner past Robinson by Gabrielle Leonard giving the Gaels a 3-2 edge.
Windsor remains on the road for their next two games as they travel to Toronto next weekend to face the Ryerson Rams and Toronto Varsity Blues.
