No. 7 Mustangs defeat Lancers in five sets

Box Score The Lancer men's volleyball team lost a hard-fought five set match to the No. 7 Western Mustangs on Friday night at the St. Denis Centre. Set scores were 25-21, 20-25, 10-25, 25-21, 11-25 in the 3-2 loss.

Windsor moves to 5-2 on the season and third place in the OUA, while the Mustangs remain undefeated at 7-0 and in first place in the conference standings.

In front of a boisterous crowd at the St. Denis Centre, the Lancers and Mustangs traded points through the first two sets, with each team coming away with win.

Tied at one set a piece in the third, the Lancers struggled to maintain their momentum as the Mustangs took the third set easily by fifteen points, 25-10.

Windsor rebounded nicely in the fourth behind the strong serving of Scott Hickman to score five of the last seven points to send the game into a fifth and final set.

The Mustangs started the fifth set strong, but the Lancers fought back forcing the visitors to take a time out with the game deadlocked at 10 points a piece. Out of the time out, Western was able to pull away and take the set to earn the win.

The Lancers were led by Harrison Oake with 15 kills, while Andrew Foster and Ryan Le each had 8 digs and Will Alexander had 47 assists.

For the Mustangs, Mathew Waite had a game high 16 kills. Alex Screaton led Western defensively with 9 digs.

Windsor will host the Guelph Gryphons next Friday November 25th at 8:00pm at the St. Denis Centre.
