Men's Volleyball splits final weekend of competition before holiday break

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Lancer men's volleyball team closed out 2011 with a 3-1 (25-23, 25-19, 18-25, 25-21) win over the Waterloo Warriors.

The game was very competitive and the Lancers showed their resolve after a disappointing 5 set loss to Guelph the night before.

Kyle Williamson finished off the Warriors with an ace on match point in the 4th set to seal the Lancer victory.

The Lancers were also lead by Harrison Oake with 18 kills, Will Alexander with 50 assists, and Andrew Foster with 16 digs.

The Warriors were lead by Cameron Wheelan with 13 kills along with 11 digs, and Scott Thomas with 37 assists.

The previous night against Guelph, the Lancers fought the Gryphons for sole possession of third place in the OUA. Unfortunately, the Gyrphons came out on top with an intense 3-2 (31-33, 25-17, 25-20, 29-31, 8-15) win over the host Lancers.

In a marathon first set, the Lancers got out of a big hole early and kept it close but failed to overcome the Gryphons.

The Lancers rebounded taking the second and third sets. The fourth set was another marathon which saw the Gryphons outlasted the Lancers 31-29. In the final set the Gryphons got out of the gate fast and never looked back, using the momentum gained from the fourth set thriller.

The Lancers were led by Harrison Oake with 24 kills, Will Alexander with 60 assists and Ryan Le with 14 digs. The Gryphons were led by Winston Rosser with 17 kills, Kevin Carey with 49 assists, and Hugo Curley with 9 digs.

The Lancers will start of the new year on January 6th at 8pm against the Toronto Varsity Blues at the St. Denis Centre.
