Box Score The Lancer Football program ended their 2011 season with a 33-27 loss to the No. 3 Western Mustangs in the OUA semi-finals on Saturday afternoon in London at TD Waterhouse Stadium.
With the loss, the Lancers closed out their most successful season since 2006 with a 5-3 regular season record, and a pair of appearances in the post season.
Western opened the scoring with a 37 yard field goal by Liriam Hajrullahu with 6:24 left in the first quarter.
On their next drive of the game, Western's Tyler Varga ran 10 yards for the first touchdown of the game to put the host Mustangs up 10-0.
The Lancer got on the board at the end of the first quarter with a 42 yard field goal by
Dan Cerino.
Windsor continued to chip away at the Mustangs lead with another field goal early in the second quarter.
Sebastien Rimbert kicked an easy 28 yards for put the Lancers within four, 10-6.
The Mustangs increased their lead to eleven with a 10 yard run by Varga for his second of the half, and then went up 19-6 as the Lancers conceded a safety in their own endzone.
On the Lancers next drive, Windsor charged their way down the field setting up
Dylan Whitfield for a 12 yard pass to bring the Lancers within six, 19-13.
The Mustangs again increased their lead on the last drive of the half, as Windsor faked a field goal attempt. The Mustangs retrieved the ball on the fake and ran the ball back 65 yards for a touchdown to go up 26-13 heading into the half.
In the second, Western's Andrew Thibaudeau caught a 73 yard pass from Mustang QB Ben Rossong to increase the Mustangs lead by twenty, 33-13.
Windsor again didn't back down, working their way through the Mustang zone.
Shomari Grant earned a 1 yard touchdown run to again decrease the Mustang lead, and bring Windsor within two touchdowns, 33-20.
The score remained unchanged until the dying minutes of the fourth quarter when Whitfield scored his second of the game with a 18 yard touchdown pass to again bring Winsor within six with two minutes on the clock.
From there, the Mustangs held on to the ball until the final buzzer to earn the win.
Kennedy finished the game going 27-for-47 and 374 yards, 2 touchdowns and 140 yards rushing, while in the air,
Cory Fernandes had 100 yards on 7 catches. Defensively,
Matt McGarva had nine tackles and one sack for the Blue & Gold.
