Lancers earn win over Waterloo

The Lancer women's volleyball team beat the Waterloo Warriors 3-1 (25-16, 25-19, 17-25, 25-22) at home Friday night.
 
The Lancer's capitalized on Warriors' mistakes and took a quick 7-point lead in the first set. Outplaying their opponents in long rallies, the Lancers were able to hold their lead and win the first set 25-16. The Lancers had 6 team blocks in the first set.
 
Despite a tighter second set, the Lancers were able to capture both technical's with a three-point lead. The Lancers sealed the victory with a four-point streak late in the set, taking it 25-19.
 
In the third set, the Warriors took their first lead of the match. It wasn't long before the Lancers tied it up, starting a back and forth battle to the second technical. Waterloo took control at the end of the game, winning 25-17.
 
Mackenzie Coyle opened the fourth set for the Lancers, going four straight from the line. After Waterloo closed in on the Lancers at 11-11 neither team was able to take more than a two-point lead until the Lancers finished it 25-22.
 
Kaila Seguin had 16 kills and 10 digs to be named Windsor's player of the game. Brianna Balzar had 7 kills and 11 digs, while Michelle Pierce chipped in 6 kills, 11 digs, 5 ace serves and Mackenzie Coyle had 5 kills, 18 digs. Jillian Fantuz had 35 assists and 3 ace serves.
 
The Lancers play the Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday at 6pm at the St. Denis Centre, and will honour graduating athlete Jillian Fantuz in a pre-game ceremony.
