Women's Volleyball loses final game at home to Laurier

Box Score
The Lancer women's volleyball team played their final regular season game at home on Saturday night at the St. Denis Centre.

Windsor started out strong, but was unable to hold on falling to the Laurier Golden Hawks 3-2 (25-19, 25-15, 22-25, 21-25, 10-15).

The Lancers had an impressive first set. Strong hitting from Michelle Pierce (5 kills) and Kaila Seguin (3 kills) kept the Lancers on the board, while their blocking and digging prevented their opponent from doing the same. Lancers won the first set 25-19.

Set two looked the same, with the Lancers taking control from the first point. They easily took both technicals and swiftly moved to a 25-15 victory after a flawless round of serving from Brianna Balzar and a Mackenzie Coyle kill.

In the third set, the Lancers took an early lead but the Hawks were able to turn it around at 13-6, going five straight to bring it within two. The two teams went point for point until the set's end when Laurier took a 3-point streak to finish it 25-22.

Laurier was able to keep the momentum up in the third set, leading for the majority of the game and taking it 25-21.

A surprise came in the final set, when Laurier finished their come back and won the match with a 15-10 fifth set win.

Mackenzie Coyle had 15 kills, Michelle Pierce 13 kills and Kaila Seguin 11 kills. Jillian Fantuz had 46 assists.

Prior to the game the Lancers honoured graduating athlete Jillian Fantuz who played in her final home game as a Lancer.

Windsor will hit the road next weekend to round out their regular season with a pair of games against Toronto and Brock.
