No. 10 Windsor set to host No. 7 McMaster in Saturday showdown

The No.10 Lancer football program looks to build on their successful start as they return home this weekend to face the No. 7 McMaster Marauders on Alumni Field.

The Lancers are currently 2-0 on the season after coming off a thrilling 41-40 victory over the No.8 Wilfred Laurier Golden Hawks in Waterloo this past weekend. As a result, they were rewarded with a ranking in the CIS Top Ten in Canada for the first time since 2006.

Lancer quarterback, and OUA and CIS football athlete of the week, Austin Kennedy, will be looked to again after an outstanding performance last week that saw him throw for 443 yards and 5 touchdowns. The Lancers will look to keep the Marauder defence guessing with the versatile Kennedy leading the offensive charge.

The Marauders head into the game with a 1-1 record, after a 48-21 home loss to the No. 2 Western Mustangs.

Windsor will look to their defensive line to provide constant pressure to the newly appointed McMaster quarterback Marshall Ferguson. He replaces starting McMaster quarterback Kyle Quinlan for Saturday's game. Ferguson will have big shoes to fill as he looks to keep the top offense in Canada on track this weekend.

In their last meeting in 2010, Windsor surrendered 21 first half points and eventually fell to the Marauders 39-3 in Hamilton.

Saturday also marks the inaugural CIS “Go Shoeless” awareness campaign, to help raise awareness for children who do not have access sports or proper sporting equipment. Head coaches Joe D'Amore and McMaster's Stefan Ptaszek, will forgo their shoes on the side lines in support of this cause.

Fans are also encouraged to check out the Lancer Athletic Department Garage Sale, which will be located inside the stadium. The Department of Athletics will be selling jerseys, equipment and memorabilia from 6-9pm, with all proceeds going to charity.

Kick-off is set for 7:00pm at Alumni Field, and tickets can be purchased at the gate prior to kick-off.
