Lancers host action packed weekend; Breast Cancer Awareness Day this Saturday

Breast Cancer Awareness Day is this Saturday January 28th
This weekend, the Windsor Lancers will host 11 games over the course of four days starting on Thursday night and running through until Sunday.

As part of the action packed weekend, the Department of Athletics will host their annual Breast Cancer Awareness day this Saturday in Windsor.

Head Coach Kevin Hamlin and the men's hockey team will kick off all the action on Thursday night as they play host to the No. 4 ranked Western Mustangs. The puck is set to drop at 7:30pm at Windsor Arena.

The men's and women's basketball teams will then host game one of a weekend double header on Friday night against the Lakehead Thunderwolves. The No. 2 women will tip-off at 6:00pm, while the men will face the No. 2 ranked Wolves at 8:00pm at the St. Denis Centre.

On Saturday, the Lancers will trade in their traditional blue and gold for pink as they raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research.

Windsor's two basketball, two volleyball and women's hockey teams will “Pack the House Pink” prior to or during their OUA home games in support of the event.

The Lancers held their first awareness night back in 2007 involving both the men's and women's basketball teams and based on that success have included more varsity events since the inaugural event.

As part of the initiative, Lancer court teams will wear navy and pink warm-up shirts. The Lancer women's hockey team will use pink stick tape and pink laces in their skates

The day will start with the Lancer volleyball teams hosting the York Lions on Saturday afternoon at the St. Denis Centre. The women will kick everything off at 1:00pm, followed by the men at 3:00pm.

It's "Pink at the Rink" for women's hockey as the Lancer women play a 4:10pm game at South Windsor Arena against the UOIT Ridgebacks.

Lancer Basketball closes out the festivities on Saturday night in game two of their weekend doubleheader against the Thunderwolves. Game time is set for 6pm for the women and 8pm for the men at the St. Denis Centre.

To raise money for Breast Cancer Research, Pink “CIS Shoot for the Cure” reusable tote bags will be available for sale throughout the day for $5 each. Proceeds from these sales will go directly to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

Lancer coaches will also be involved as they will be wearing pink behind the bench to show their support for the cause.

The Lancer volleyball and women's hockey teams will be in action again on Sunday to close out the jam packed weekend. In their final regular season home games, the volleyball teams will honour their graduating seniors in two pre-game ceremonies. The women are schedule to start at 1:00pm, followed by the men at approximately 3:00pm against the McMaster Marauders.

The women's hockey team will then play the final game of the weekend against the Queen's Gaels at 4:10pm at South Windsor Arena.

Tickets for Lancer basketball are $8 for adults, $5 for students and seniors. Tickets for Lancer volleyball and hockey are $5 for adults and $3 for students and seniors. Be sure to join us this weekend for a terrific day of activity and to help raise funds for Breast Cancer Research.
