Box Score 2 The Lancer women's volleyball team closed out the home portion of their schedule this weekend with a pair of losses to the first place York Lions and the McMaster Marauders.
The Lancers lost a 3-0 (16-25, 20-25, 22-25) decision to the Lions on Saturday afternoon at the St. Denis Centre.
The first set saw the Lancers jump out to a quick 4-0 lead before the Lions jumped to an 11-7 lead, en route to the 25-16 win. Windsor was lead in the set by
Jessica Shepley with 5 digs and 2 aces.
In game 2, the Lions and Lancers were tied at 8-8 when the Lions went on a 14-6 run to take a lead they would not let go.
Kaila Seguin had 3 kills in the set for Windsor and
Ana Vrcelj had 2 kills and 2 aces.
Set three saw York jump out to a quick 0-6 lead and a 13-21 lead, but the Lancers battled back to make the game 22-23 on the strength of Vrcelj's 3 kills and 2 aces down the stretch and the strong back row play of libero
Chelsey Drouillard. However, the Lions held on for a 22-25 win in the set to take the match.
On Sunday, the Lancers could not keep up with the McMaster Marauders, who dominated the court from start to finish. The Lancers lost in three straight sets 3-0 (15-25, 19-25, 14-25) in their final home game of the season.
Kaila Seguin led the Lancers with 6 kills and 11 digs.
Prior to the match, the Lancers honoured their graduating seniors Dana Carter, Jen Ellig,
Milana McNamee, and
Paige McDowell. Congratulations on a great career with the Blue & Gold.
The Lancers will hit the road for their final two games of the season against the RMC Paladins and Queen's Gaels next weekend.
