Lancers come from behind to defeat Queen's; fall to UOIT Saturday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Lancer women's hockey team earned a huge win on Sunday afternoon with a 3-2 win over the visiting Queen's Gaels at South Windsor Arena.

Tied at two late in the third period, Krysten Bortolotti scored the go ahead goal on Gaels goaltender Karissa Savage to put the Lancers up by one with only minutes remaining.

The Gaels fought hard in an attempt to send the game into overtime, but the Lancer defense and goaltender Karlyle Robinson stood strong to earn the win.

With the win, the Lancers are now in sixth place in the OUA standings with a 10-10-2 record.

Queen's got on the board first with a power play goal at 7:41 of the second period. Five minutes later, Candace Chevalier scored her third of the season to even the score at one.

Before the period was out, Queen's forward Taryn Pilon would get one past Robinson to give the Gaels a one goal lead heading into the third period.

In the third, the Lancers again tied the game with Courtney Spoors tenth goal of the season. Jenny MacKnight and Bortolotti were credited with the assists.

The remainder of the period was a back and forth battle with strong performances from both goalies. Bortolotti's winning goal came at 16:04 of the period to give Windsor the win.

Karlyle Robinson had 32 saves in the win.

Previously, the Lancers fell to the UOIT Ridgebacks 5-0 on Breast Cancer Awareness Day at South Windsor Arena on Saturday.

The Lancers will now play their final two regular season home game next weekend when they host the Toronto Varsity Blues (Saturday) and Ryerson Rams (Sunday) at South Windsor Arena.

Prior to the game on Sunday, the Lancers will honour their graduating athletes in a pre-game ceremony.
