Women's Hockey falls to No. 2 Laurier to open second half of season

Box Score The Lancer Women's Hockey team opened up the 2012 portion of their campaign with a 4-2 loss to the N0. 2 Laurier Golden Hawks on Friday night in Waterloo.

With the loss, the Lancers are now 8-6-2 and continue to hold onto fourth place in the OUA standings.

The Lancers started the game on fire as they jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 11 seconds into the game with a goal from Jane Gaffney.

Windsor would maintain their lead throughout the first period against the strong pressure from Laurier until the 19:05 mark of the period when Laurier's Devon Skeats tied the game for the Hawks.

As was the case in the first period, Windsor would get on the board again early in the second period when Candace Kourounis beat Laurier netminder Erika Thunder just over three minutes into the period.

However, the Hawks bounced back just four minutes later when Brittany Crago scored an unassisted marker to even the score at two.

Before the period was out, Laurier would grab the lead for the first time in the contest as Caitlin Muirhead scored her eighth of the season past Windsor goalie Julia Ouroumis.

The Golden Hawks would score their fourth of the game in the final period to secure the win.

Ourourmis stopped 28 of 32 shots faced in net, while Thunder made 16 saves for the home team.

The Lancers will face the Brock Badgers on January 14th in St. Catherine's, before facing the Guelph Gryphons on January 15th at 2:00pm.
