Lancer Volleyball drops pair of games to open New Year

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Lancer women's volleyball team lost a pair of home games over the weekend to the Toronto Varsity Blues and the Ryerson Rams.
 
In the first match back from the holiday break, the Toronto Varsity Blues defeated the Windsor Lancers 3-0 (13-25, 17-25, 19-25).
 
Toronto came out strong in game one as they jumped out to an 8-1 and 12-2 leads. Windsor battled back to make the score 16-12 for Toronto, only to see Toronto end the game on a 9-1 run. 
 
In game two, Toronto again jumped out to an early lead at 5-1, but Windsor again battled back to make the score 9-7 Windsor on the strong front row play of Ana Vrcelj and Kaila Seguin.  With the game tied at 12, the Varsity Blues used the strong play of Charlotte Sider and setter Malena Rapaport to gain a 22-15 advantage and eventually take the second set 25-17.
 
In the third, the Blues jumped out to an early 6-2 lead and maintained that gap the rest of the way to hang on 25-19 and take the match in three sets.
 
Ana Vrcelj and Kaila Seguin led the Lancer attack with 7 kills, while Jen Ellig had 10 digs defensively.
 
On Saturday, the Rams were too much for the Lancers as Ryerson won the match 3-0 (18-25, 22-25, 15-25).
 
Team leaders for the Lancers were Jessica Shipley with 19 assists, Kaila Seguin with 8 kills, and Chelsey Drouillard 11 digs.
 
For Ryerson Danielle Lenarduzzi contributed 33 assists, Chelsea Jensen had 16 kills, and Carli Yim had 13 digs.
 
Windsor hits the road next weekend to take on the Waterloo Warriors at 6:00pm on Friday night.
