Box Score 2 The Lancer men's hockey team opened the 2012-13 season with a series split against the UOIT Ridgebacks over the weekend at Windsor Arena.
Windsor opened the weekend with an impressive 4-2 win against the visiting Ridgebacks on Saturday night. The Lancers power play looked strong scoring two goals with the man advantage.
UOIT took an early lead just 2:49 into the first period with a goal from Luke VanMoerkerke. The lead didn't last long as rookie Myles Doan scored his first OUA goal on the power play at 5:15 of the period.
The Ridgebacks again scored an early goal to start the second period. James Woodcroft was set up by James Diminie and Matt Pasztor at 2:37 to once again give the visitors the lead.
The Windsor power play unit stuck again midway through the period, and the new additions to the roster seemed to be mixing well into Coach Hamlin's squad, as another first year Lancer Myles McCauley put the Lancers on the board to tie the game up at two.
The third period was all Windsor as
Steve Ferry and
Isak Quakenbush (empty net) each scored to secure the win for the Lancers.
Second year Lancer
Evan Stibbard led the way for Windsor, as he set up muliple scoring chances and finished the game with three assists. Goaltender
Parker Van Buskirk finished the game with 27 saves.
On Sunday. special teams was an issue for the Blue & Gold as they gave up three power play goals and a short handed goal in a 6-0 loss to the Ridgebacks.
Connor Tresham had a solid game for the Ridgebacks setting up four goals, three of which came on the power play.
The Lancers will now hit the road for a pair of games next weekend as they face the Brock Badgers on Friday night in St. Catharine's and the Western Mustangs on Saturday night in London.
