Box Score 2 WINDSOR, Ont.- The Windsor Lancers Women's Volleyball team opened their 2012-13 season at St. Denis Centre this past weekend, dropping both their matches against the Ottawa Gee-Gees and Brock Badgers.
The women fell to the Gee-Gees in their home opener at the St. Denis Centre, losing in straight sets (25-19, 25-16, 25-13). Karina Krueger Schwanke led all players with 11 kills for the Gee-Gees, while
Marissa Thomson,
Roshanna Matthews, and
Kaila Seguin each tallied six kills for the Lancers in a losing cause.
Brianna Balzer picked up five kills for Windsor, and captain
Jessica Shepley picked up 23 set assists. Kelsie English tallied 10 digs for the Gee-Gees, compared to 11 for the Lancers'
Shannon Dean.
The Lancers looked as though they were about to rebound on Sunday against the Badgers, snagging a 2-0 lead thanks to a hard fought first set, and explosive start to the second frame where they went up 9-0 in the early going.
However, the Badgers came to life in the second half of the match, and were able to steal a win in five sets (18-25, 16-25, 25-21, 25-18, 15-11) to move back to .500, leaving the Lancers winless in their first two regular season matches.
Seguin tallied a team-high 16.5 points with 11 kills and an ace, while
Brianna Balzer also picked up 11 kills for the women.
Shannon Dean added 10 kills and nine digs for Windsor, and Lucy McLay had a game-high 16 kills and 21.5 points to guide the Badgers to the comeback win.
The Lancers are back in action next Saturday, October 27, hosting the Guelph Gryphons at St. Denis Centre. Game-time is set for 7:00 p.m.
