Women's Volleyball sweeps Guelph at home

Box Score WINDSOR, Ont- The Windsor Lancers women's volleyball team picked up its first victory of the 2012-13 regular season on Saturday night at St. Denis Centre, tallying a 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-18) win over the Guelph Gryphons.

Third-year Brianna Balzer was solid throughout the match, picking up a game-high 12 kills and not committing any errors on 27 total attacks. 

The Lancers also got strong performances by rookies Shannon Dean (Whitby, Ont.) and Roshanna Matthews (Brampton, Ont.), who added nine and eight kills respectively in the win.  Matthews garnered a match-high 14 points by tacking on three solo blocks and two block assists on the evening.  Both Matthews and Dean picked up two aces. 

The Lancers finished the contest with a 25.2% kill effectiveness, compared to 9.2% from their Gryphons counterparts.  Julie Gordon led Guelph with seven kills and added five digs in a losing cause. 

Windsor will head to St. Catharines, Ont. next Sunday, November 4 to take on the Brock Badgers.  The women will be looking for some revenge after suffering a five-set loss to the Badgers on October 21 at St. Denis.  The women return home to battle the Lakehead Thunderwolves on November 10 and 11.
