Women's Hockey earns third straight win

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Lancer women's hockey team earned their third straight win this weekend with a pair of victories over the UOIT Ridgebacks and York Lions.

On Saturday afternoon at South Windsor Arena, the Lancers overcame a two goal deficit to defeat the visiting Ridgebacks 5-3.

Windsor was down 3-1 midway through the second period, before the Blue & Gold scored four answered goals through the remainder of regulation to earn the win.

Lindsay Hoogstraten put the Lancers on the board at 4:13 of the first period. The Lancers almost had a 1-0 lead heading into the break, but the Ridgebacks scored on the power play with just 1:02 left in the opening frame.

The Ridgebacks continued to add to the scoreboard over the first half of the second period before the Lancers were able to find the net again.

Jillian Rops third goal of the season jump started the Lancer attack at 14:26 of the second period on the power play. Candice Chevalier scored her sixth of the season before the end of the frame to tie the game at three heading into the final frame.

The Lancer attack continued throughout the third as Candace Kourounis netted her first of the year, and Krysten Bortolotti added an insurance marker to earn the 5-3 win.

Karlyle Robinson had a solid day in net for the Lancers making 19 saves for the Blue & Gold.

On Sunday, the Lancers continued to dominate the visiting team as they defeated the York Lions 6-2 on home ice.

Bortolotti led the way for Windsor scoring a goal and two assists in the win.

Bree Polci opened the scoring at 8:18 of the first period. Courtney Spoors scored her first of the year with a power play marker at 15:02 to give Windsor a 2-0 lead heading into first intermission.

Windsor built a four goal lead with Kourounis' and Rops' second goals of the weekend.

The Lions finally managed to get one past Robinson with a power play goal at 8:04 of the third period. From there, the two teams traded goals for the remainder of the period, with the Lancers coming out on top 6-2. Windsor's third period goals were scored by Hoogstraten and Bortolotti.

Robinson made 35 saves in net for Windsor.

The Lancers will hit the road next weekend as a they take on the Western Mustangs on Friday night in London, and the Queen's Gaels on Saturday in Kingston.
