Minor Football Day: Lancers host Queen's

WINDSOR, Ont.- The Windsor Lancers football team will look to win their second game in a row for the first time this season when they host the Queen's Gaels at Alumni field on Saturday evening.

All minor football players will get free admission at the gate if they are wearing their team jersey.  It is also Staff and Faculty Day, and all University of Windsor employees showing their employee card receive a buy-one get-one free deal at the gate.

After notching a tight 26-22 win over York last Saturday, the Lancers (3-2) currently sit fifth in the OUA conference.  Tecumseh, Ont. native Jordan Brescacin picked up a contest-high 209 yards receiving as well as two majors including the game-winning touchdown for the Lancers.  The former CIS all-Canadian sits atop the nation with an average of 147.2 receiving yards per game.  Brescacin also leads the CIS with seven touchdowns and 736 total receiving yards.  Quarterback Austin Kennedy remains at the top of the country with 356.0 passing yards per game as well as 13 throwing  majors.  The hometown native threw for 390 yards and three touchdowns against the Lions.

The Lancers are in tough this week, as the CIS No. 5-ranked Gaels (4-1) come into Saturday's match having dropped only one game all season to the defending national champion McMaster Marauders, who they currently are behind in the standings in second place.  Running-back Ryan Granberg is currently third in the CIS with an average of 117.4 yards on the ground per game.  He also co-leads all running-backs with nine touchdowns.  Queen's quarterback Billy McPhee averages 253.6 yards per game in the air, while Sam Sabourin has 33 total tackles as well as two sacks on the year.

The Lancers have dropped their last five meetings with Queen's, including a 27-14 loss on Thanksgiving weekend last year.  Their last win came in 2006, when Windsor defeated the Gaels in Kingston, Ont. by a score of 22-18.

The Lancers and Gaels will do battle on Alumni Field this Saturday evening, with kick-off set for 7:00 p.m.
