Box Score 2 The Windsor Lancers Women's Hockey team opened up their 2012-13 regular season with a dramatic OT win over Saturday afternoon as they edged the Waterloo Warriors 4-3 in overtime at South Windsor Arena.
The Lancers then closed out the weekend with a 2-0 loss to the reigning OUA champion Laurier Golden Hawks.
On Saturday, the Lancers got a strong performance from rookie
Jillian Rops, who had two points including the game-winning goal in overtime to secure the victory.
On Saturday, the visiting Warriors got on the board first as they notched a powerplay marker at 15:09 of the first period to take the 1-0 lead.
Windsor battled back early in the secon as
Jenny MacKnight scored her first of the season to tie up the game.
After another Warrior goal halfway through the second, the Lancers squared the game again in early in the third as
Natalie Barrette scored to make it 2-2.
Three minutes later, Waterloo would take their third lead of the game to go ahed 3-2. For the third time as well, Windsor tied it up as
Bree Polci scored less than two minutes later to make it 3-3.
After regulation ended with the scored tied, the Lancers would put away the Warriors in overtime on a beautiful powerplay goal from Rops. The play was set up by
Adalena Tridico and
Kayla Dodson as they earned the hard fought 4-3 overtime win.
Karlyle Robinson earned the victory in goal for Windsor asd she made 28 saves on the night.
On Sunday, the Lancers battled hard against the visiting Golden Hawks.
Laurier would open the scoring early in the second period when Laura Brooker beat Lancers starting goalie
Karlyle Robinson to put the Hawks up 1-0.
Brittany Crago increased the Hawks cushion to two goals early in the third period after being setup by linemate Andrea Shapero.
The Lancer offense worked well together, setting up a number of scoring opportunities, but were unable to get by Laurier goaltender Erika Thunder.
Windsor will play back at home next weekend when they host the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday afternoon at 4:10pm at South Windsor Arena.
