Box Score 2 The Lancer women's hockey team earned three points over the weekend in two tight games against the UOIT Ridgebacks and Western Mustangs.
Windsor edged the Ridgebacks 4-3 on Saturday afternoon, and then narrowly fell to the Mustangs 3-2 in a shootout on Sunday.
Windsor is 9-4-1 on the year and is tied for fourth place in the OUA with Western, heading into a pair of road games next weekend against Laurier Golden Hawks and Waterloo Warriors.
In Saturday's win, Windsor was led by
Courtney Spoors and
Jenny MacKnight who had two goals apiece.
With the game tied late in the third period, MacKnight scored her second of the match with just one minute remaining to give the Lancers the win.
The Lancers entire offensive line had a great game creating a number of scoring opportunities.
Karlyle Robinson had another solid day between the pipes with 26 saves.
Against the Mustangs on Sunday,
Candace Kourounis scored on the power play at 8:36 of the first period to give Windsor a 1-0 lead.
The lead didn't last long however, as Western's Carly Rolph tied the game just 0:17 quick seconds later at 8:53.
The Mustangs took a 2-1 lead late in the second period as Tara Cation scored an unassisted goal for her first of the season.
Krysten Bortolotti scored the lone goal of the period to send the game into extra time.
With overtime solving nothing, the game headed for a shootout. Of the six shooters, Western's Natasha Panahi was the only one successful at find the back of the net to give the Mustangs the win.
Windsor will now head to the Waterloo region to face the Laurier Golden Hawks and Waterloo Warriors next weekend.
