Windsor falls to No. 4 Queen's

Box Score The Lancer women's hockey team closed out the first half of their season with a 4-3 loss to the No. 4 ranked Queen's Gaels on Saturday afternoon at Tecumseh Arena.

Windsor is now 9-6-2 on the season and in fifth place in the OUA heading into the holiday break.

In a penalty filled contest, Windsor held the lead over Queen's on two seperate occasions, but got into penalty trouble in the third period, allowing the Gaels to capitalize on their scoring chances and take the win.

Special teams played a key role in the day's contest, with five goals between the two teams being scored with the man advantage.

Adalena Tridico and Candace Kourounis led the way offensively for Windsor with 3 assists and 2 goals respectively, while Courtenay Jacklin dominated the Gaels offense, scoring a hat trick, including two power play goals and the winning marker.

Kourounis opened the scoring midway through the first period with her first of the game. Assists were credited to Tridico and Jillian Rops.

Jacklin tied the game at one a few minutes later with her first of the game, sending the game into the intermission tied at one.

In the second, Jacklin and Kourounis again scored for their respective clubs as the game went into the final period deadlocked at two.

After captain Alyssa Baldin gave Windsor their second lead of the game, the Lancers spent much of the third period in the penalty box.

The Gaels took every advantage and scored two power play goals in the final period to take the lead and the win. Chantal Morais evened the game at 5:06 before Jacklin secured her hat trick with the game winner at 13:43.

Windsor will return to OUA action on January 12th when they travel to St. Catharine's to face the Brock Badgers.
