Lancers close out 2012 with loss to Ottawa

Box Score The Lancer women's volleyball season closed out the front half of their schedule with a 3-0 (16-25, 22-25, 13-25) against the Ottawa Gee Gees on Saturday afternoon in the nation's capital.

Heading into the New Year, the Lancers are 2-8 in regular season action and in a three way tie for eleventh place.

An energetic Lancers squad came out firing on both sides of the ball to start the first set, as Windsor took a 10-6 lead early on in the match. Windsor continued to make plays on defence, which led to a lot of long rallies. However, the Gee-Gees eventually picked up the pace on offence, winning ten of the next eleven points in the set. Ottawa never relinquished their lead en route a 25-16 win in the first set.

Once again, the Lancers matched the Gee-Gees point for point early on in the second set, until the Gee-Gees started to pull away. However, the Lancers did manage to mount a small comeback attempt, cutting the deficit to just 16-13 at the technical timeout. The Gee Gees however were able to maintain their lead to win the set.

In the third, the Lancers struggled on both sides of the ball as they fell 13-25 in a quick and final set.

Windsor was led by Gabrielle Miletic with 19 set assists and Chelsey Drouillard with 13 digs.

The Lancers will now break for the Christmas holidays and return to OUA action on January 11th when they travel up the 401 to meet the Western Mustangs in London.
