Lancer Football ready to battle Gryphons

The NFL on Campus will be on site this Saturday starting at 6pm
WINDSOR, Ont.- The Windsor Lancers football team will look to build upon their impressive season debut when they welcome the Guelph Gryphons to Alumni Field this Saturday evening.

The Lancers opened their 2012 campaign with a convincing 63-18 victory over the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Monday afternoon in front of 4,133 spectators, giving Joe D'Amore his first win as the program's fourth head coach after serving an interim role in 2011.

Quarterback Austin Kennedy (Windsor) earned OUA and CIS football offensive player of the week honours after passing for six touchdowns against the Gee-Gees, tying a team record.  His 31 completions and 482 passing yards on Labour Day broke his own single-game records.  Tecumseh, Ont. native and CIS all-Canadian Jordan Brescacin tallied 214 receiving yards and three touchdowns in the home opener, passing the 2,000 yards receiving mark along the way.

The Lancers, who have moved up to become the No. 7 ranked squad in the national rankings this week, will welcome a Gryphons squad that is licking its wounds following a 50-9 loss at the hands of the defending national champion McMaster Marauders on the road.

Guelph's offense was held to just 53 yards on the ground and 207 yards total in the contest.  Second-year pivot Jazz Lindsay had a rough day at the office, throwing for just 133 yards and a touchdown but garnering three interceptions and three sacks.

Windsor topped Guelph in the teams' last meeting, where Kennedy finished with 238 yards in the air, two touchdowns and no interceptions, leading his team to a 41-21 triumph on October 1, 2011.

The Lancers will look to begin the regular season with two straight wins for the second year in a row this Saturday against the Gryphons.  Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m.

On Saturday the NFL on Campus will be in town to promote OUA Football. Fans are invited to participate in a number of inflatable football related activities, with plenty of prizes and giveaways courtesy of the National Football League.
