Box Score The Lancer women's hockey team lost a heartbreaking 4-0 game to the No. 4 Laurier Golden Hawks on Friday night at South Windsor Arena.
After playing two tough games against the Golden Hawks this season, Windsor was looking to avenge their two losses earlier in the season to Laurier, and came out of the gates flying firing 13 shots at Hawks goaltender Kayla Brown but could not beat the Hawks goalie in the opening 20 minutes.
The intensity of the game picked up in the second period, a period that featured a penalty shot opportunity for both Laurier and Windsor just minutes apart. However, both Brown and Windsor's netminder
Karlyle Robinson were up to the challenge to keep the game scoreless.
The Hawks would finally break the deadlock at the 15:37 mark of the second period when Caitlin Muirhead found the back of the net to put the purple and gold up 1-0. Her goal was followed quickly by tallies from Andrea Shapero and Paula Lagamba to give Laurier a 3-0 lead after 40 minutes.
In the third period, the Lancers put forth a potent offensive attack, but the Hawks limited them to just five shots on net in the final frame. Laurier's Jessie Hurrell would round out the scoring inside the final three minutes to give the Hawks the 4-0 win.
The Lancers are 10-8-2 on the season and maintain their spot in fifth place in the standings. They will look to get back in the win column on Sunday afternoon as they travel up the 401 to face the Waterloo Warriors at 2:00pm.
