Lancers clip Marauders in home opener

Kaila Seguin led the Lancers with 20 points to help Windsor clinch its first win of the season.
Box Score WINDSOR, Ont.- Fifth-year outside hitter Kaila Seguin tallied 14 kills, leading the Windsor Lancers women's volleyball team to a 3-1 (25-20, 25-18, 17-25, 25-21) victory over the visiting McMaster Marauders in their home opener on Friday night.

The senior and former OUA all-star added three aces and three blocks for a team-high 20 points to help spur the Lancers to their first win of the season, allowing the women to shake off two five-set losses to Lakehead last weekend. Rookie Carleigh Baleigh tallied nine kills and two aces, while Mackenzie Coyle notched eight kills and a team-best 21 digs. Danielle Lenarduzzi tallied 40 assists for the Lancers, who improve to 1-2 on the year.

Sophie Bukovec tallied a game-high 25 kills in a losing cause for the Marauders, who remain winless on the season at 0-2.

After taking the first two sets in quick succession, the women fell victim to a couple of Marauders streaks in the third to drop the set, bringing the visitors within one. McMaster looked to be sending Windsor to its third-straight fifth-set match, tallying eight straight points to take a 21-19 lead.

However, after an attacking error by the Marauders, Seguin picked up consecutive kills tohelp the Lancers re-take the lead. Lenarduzzi iced the contest with her third ace of the evening, as Windsor notched six points in a row to clinch the victory.
