TORONTO- The Windsor Lancers women's hockey team got back in the win column on Friday night at the Mattamy Athletic Centre (formerly Maple Leaf Gardens), topping the Ryerson Rams in the heart of downtown Toronto by a score of 3-1.
The win moves Windsor (4-3-1) above the .500 mark once again, as the women have won four of their past five contests.
The Rams opened the scoring in the first period despite being outshot 12-6, but the Lancers continued to pour on the offence and were rewarded in the middle frame with goals from
Candice Chevalier and
Laura Monforton.
Chevalier then added her second of the game and fourth of the season midway through the third period to seal the victory for the women.
Ingrid Sandven stopped 15 of 16 shots to earn the win, while Emma Crawley turned aside 36 of 39 shots in a losing cause for the Rams (2-5-0).
Windsor will look for their second win of the weekend on Saturday afternoon against the Toronto Varsity Blues (5-1-1), who are coming off a 2-0 upset win over the CIS No. 6 ranked Western Mustangs on Friday. Puck-drop is set for 4:00 p.m., and the game can be seen live online
