Box Score WINDSOR, Ont.- The Windsor Lancers women's volleyball team made concluded their first home-stand of the season with a 3-1 (25-13,21-25,25-23,28-26) victory over the rival Western Mustangs at the St. Denis Centre on Friday evening.
Sophomore
Shannon Dean notched a game-high 20 points and recorded a potent .464 hitting percentage, tallying 16 kills and just three errors on the evening.
Mackenzie Coyle added 13 kills and
Kaila Seguin chipped in 12 for the Lancers (3-2), who are currently riding a three-game win streak after dropping two tightly contested matches against Lakehead two weekends ago to open their conference schedule.
Windsor currently holds down second place in the OUA West division behind Guelph (3-1) due to win percentage. The loss leaves the Mustangs (0-4) winless on the year. Stephanie Krueter led Western with 17 kills and 18.5 points.
After a dominant opening set that the Lancers took in quick fashion, the visitors jumped back to even the match. The women looked comfortable heading into the latter half of the third stanza, but a comeback bid from Western cut a four-point spread down to one. However, timely kills by Dean and Coyle gave Windsor its second lead of the match.
The women once again held a healthy lead in the fourth, going up 21-16 and looking well on their way to a third-straight win. The Mustangs found some fight, and railed off six of seven points to even the set. However, the veteran Seguin came through in the clutch, picking up two straight kills to move the Lancers above the .500 mark for the first time this season.
The women will look to make it four in a row when they head to St. Catharines, Ont. on Sunday afternoon to take on the Brock Badgers. Game-time is set for 1:00 p.m., and the game will be available live online
