Lancers tame Lions for sixth straight win

Box Score WINDSOR, Ont.- The Windsor Lancers men's hockey team defeated the York Lions 4-1 on Saturday evening at South Windsor Arena, picking up their sixth straight win.

The victory moves the Lancers (6-1) to first place in the West division after the weekend's games, while the Lions drop to 5-3 and are tied for fifth.

Blake Blondeel opened the scoring for Windsor at the 2:51 mark of the first, but Michael Santini evened the contest later in the period as the squads went into the locker rooms deadlocked at 1-1. However, second period markers from Spencer Pommells and Paul Bezzo allowed the Lancers to open up a two-goal lead after 40 minutes of play. MacAulay MacDonnell added an insurance marker in the third, which was his fourth of the season.

Parker Van Buskirk made 19 saves to earn win number six, while both teams combined to go 0-for-12 on the power-play.

The men hit the road next weekend as they head to North Bay, Ont. for a two-game set against the Nipissing Lakers. Windsor will return to South Windsor Arena on November 15 and 16 when they will host the UQTR Patriotes.
