Women's Hockey closes out 2013 with loss to Queen's

The Lancer women's hockey team closed out the 2013 portion of their schedule with a 3-2 loss to the No. 2 Queen's Gaels on Saturday afternoon in Kingston.

Heading into the holiday break, the Lancers are 7-6-1 on the season and are tied for 6th place overall with the Western Mustangs.

The Gaels went ahead five minutes into the game when Alisha Sealey scored from Mary Coughlin and Morgan McHaffie. Queen's added a second goal midway through the first as Michele Knecht gave the Gaels a 2-0 lead heading into the intermission.

Windsor mounted a second period comeback as Erinn Noseworthy netted a goal in the first minute of the period after the Lancers killed a penalty. With Queen's Kyla Crouse in the penalty box, sophomore Jillian Rops scored a power-play goal to tie the game 2-2 heading into the third.

The third period was a heated battle, and as the game wound down Jessica Wakefield tipped McHaffie's shot past Lancer goaltender Marissa Kozovski for the Gaels win.

Kozovski finished with 26 saves in the loss, while Queen's netminder Mel Dodd-Moher picked up the win with her 14 save performance.

Windsor will now break for exams and the holiday season. Regular season action resumes on Saturday January 11th when they kick off a five game road trip against the Laurentian Voyageurs. The Lancers do not return home until January 31st when they host the Toronto Varsity Blues at 7:30pm at South Windsor Arena.
