Women's Hockey falls to Queen's; eliminated from post season

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Lancer women's hockey team lost a pair of road games in the OUA quarter-finals to the Queen's Gaels, and have been eliminated from the post season.

Heading into the weekend, the Lancers held a 1-0 series lead after a 6-1 in Windsor on Thursday night. On Saturday, in game two of the best-of -three series, Windsor fell 3-2 to the Gaels before falling 7-1 in the series deciding game three on Sunday.

In game two, Bree Polci gave Windsor a 1-0 lead with a power play goal at 10:59 of the first period. Assists were credited to Erinn Noseworthy and Candace Kourounis

Windsor maintained the one goal lead heading into the second period. 

Queen's came out blazing in the middle stanza, scoring three unanswered goals over the twenty minute period.

Gaels captain Kristin Smith tied the game at 1:09 of the period, before Katie Duncan gave Queen's the one goal lead at 9:07 on the power play. Queen's third goal also came on the power play at 10:36 from Alisha Sealey.

In the third, the Lancers battled back trying to tie the game back up. Kourounis earned her second point of the night, as she brought the Lancers within one at 5:31. 

Unfortunately Windsor was unable to find the equalizer, giving Queen's the 3-2 win. 

On Sunday, the Lancers once again got on the board first as Caitlin Connell buried the puck as it bounced out in front the Gaels net for a 1-0 lead.

In the second, the Gaels combined for five goals including three in less that three minutes to take a comanding 5-1 lead after forty minutes.

The Lancers made a goaltender change to start the third period as Kassandra Paone entered the game for Karlyle Robinson.

Windsor had a pair of five on three power play opportunities throughout the third, but was unable to capitalize on them, as the host school scored a pair of goals to take the 7-1 win.
