Box Score THUNDER BAY, Ont.- In the first of two highly anticipated match-ups between the top squads in the OUA West this weekend, it was the Lakehead Thunderwolves who notched a slim 70-64 victory over the Windsor Lancers men's basketball team on Friday evening.
BOXSCORE
The loss snaps a seven-game winning streak held by the Lancers coming into Friday's contest. Windsor was undefeated since January 9 when they fell to Laurier on the road. The Thunderwolves have been the hottest team in the West after going into the holiday break with a 3-4 record through inter-division play. Lakehead has won 12 of its last 13 contests, and is currently riding a seven-game win streak after Friday's victory.
Lien Phillip (Grenada) led the Lancers with 13 points and seven rebounds, but was the only Windsor player to crack double-digits in scoring. The men shot 35.8% compared to 34.3% from the hosts, and struggled from the foul line, making just 12 of 21 (57.1%) free throw attempts.
Friday's results sets up a rubber-match for first place in the West division on Saturday between the CIS Top Ten squads. The Thunderwolves (13-5) are just one game back of the Lancers (14-4), who have held first place in the division the entire season. A Lakehead victory would give them the tie-breaker should both squads finish the season with identical records. However, a Lancers win would restore a two-game spread with as many games remaining in the regular season schedule.
Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m., and the game will be available live online at
