Lancers earn critical win over Lakehead

Box Score THUNDER BAY, Ont.- The Windsor Lancers men's basketball team earned a critical 64-56 victory over the Lakehead Thunderwolves on Saturday night on the road, spreading their OUA West division lead to two games with as many games remaining in the regular season.

With first place in the West on the line Saturday night, the Lancers (15-4) came up with a big rebound win one night after falling to the Thunderwolves (13-6), and thus will control their own playoff destiny with just two games remaining in the regular season.

Enrico DiLoreto tallied a game-high 22 points and added four rebounds in the victory, while Lien Phillip garnered a team-best 11 boards and eight points for the Lancers, who held the Thunderwolves to just eight points in the second quarter to take a 10-point lead into halftime.

However, both sides struggled in the third quarter, combining for just 17 points in the stanza, before Lakehead would make a late fourth quarter run to cut the lead to four.  However, the Lancers would hang on in the final minutes for their 15th win.

Windsor shot 33.8% from the field compared to 37.7% from the hosts who outrebounded the Lancers 40-35.

The Lancers can claim first place in the West with a victory in one of their final two games of the conference schedule.  Windsor will host the Western Mustangs this coming Wednesday at the St. Denis Centre in their last home game of the regular season before closing out the year against Brock next weekend.
