Box Score 2 The Lancer women's hockey team ended the 2012-13 regular season with a pair of road losses. The team dropped a 2-1 shoot-out decision to the York Lions on Saturday afternoon in Toronto, and ended the season with a 3-2 loss to UOIT on Sunday in Oshawa.
Windsor finished the season with a 12-10-4 record, good for sixth place in the OUA standings, and will face the #3 seed Queen's Gaels in the first round of the OUA playoffs.
On Saturday against York, the first period saw chances but no goals for either side as each goalie systematically shut down her rival's offence. Lancer goaltender
Karlyle Robinson got a pad on a hard wrist shot by the Lions and contained the rebound, while York stayed on top of a breakaway chance for the Lancers and shut it down without allowing a rebound.
Each team's penalty kill went perfect for the period, with the Lancers containing a long 5-on-3 Lions power play to keep the game scoreless heading into the second period.
The Lancers took the lead in the second with a power play goal from
Erinn Noseworthy (Appin, Ont.), who beat York's Megan Lee with a surprise wraparound at 12:27. Captain
Alyssa Baldin assisted on the Lancers' go-ahead goal.
Despite continuing penalty trouble, the Lions retaliated with a shorthanded goal that beat Robinson on the low glove side to send the game into the third period tied at one.
No goals materialized in the final period, as well as the five minute overtime to send the game into a shoot-out.
The Lions very nearly ended the game with a hard wrist shot on a power play in overtime but a sprawling Robinson managed to get just enough of her glove on the puck to divert it just wide of the net.
Baldin managed to get past Lee in the shoot-out, but was the only Lancer goal as the Lions earned the 2-1 win.
Against UOIT, the Ridgebacks took a 1-0 lead after the first period before
Candace Kourounis tied it up for the Lancers in the second period.
In the final period, the host school scored took a two goal lead midway through the period.
Bree Polci scored her eighth of th year on the power play to bring Windsor within one with five minutes remaining in regulation.
Unfortunately, the Lancers were not able to capitalize on any scoring chances as the Ridgebacks earned the 3-2 win.
