The University of Windsor has appointed
Mike Havey Acting Director, Athletics & Recreational Services. The appointment is effective immediately and will run until June 30, 2014.
Havey currently serves as Associate Director, and replaces Gord Grace who stepped down from his role as Athletic Director last week.
Hired as the head coach of the Lancer men's basketball team in 1991, Havey spent 13 years at the helm of the program before retiring from coaching in 2004. He was appointed as Associate Athletic Director later that same year.
"I am looking forward to working with Mike as we move forward to even greater heights in athletics and recreation at the University of Windsor,” commented Dean of Human Kinetics Dr. Michael Khan. “We have a big year ahead of us and I am confident that with Mike at the helm we will have a tremendous Lancer season."
Havey has shown outstanding leadership during his 22 years at the University of Windsor through his commitment to our students, coaches, staff and faculty. His leadership also extends into his involvement on campus and in the community. Earlier this year he was awarded the University of Windsor's Leadership Award.
Later this summer, Havey will represent Canada at the 2013 Summer Universaide in Kazan, Russia as part of the administrative team for Team Canada. Upon his return, Havey and the department will begin preparing for a busy Lancer season that includes the 50th anniversary of the University of Windsor and the hosting of the 2014 CIS women's basketball championships this coming March.
“I am honoured and excited to take on the challenge of the position of Acting Director, Athletics & Rec. Services,” said Havey. “Our team is an experienced and talented group, and we enter this transition period in a strong position. We are committed to the challenge of building on our history of success and accomplishment.”
