WINDSOR, Ont.- Fourth year guard
Enrico Diloreto hit a buzzer-beating lay-up off an inbounds play with just under two seconds remaining in regulation, lifting the Windsor Lancers men's basketball team to a 64-63 victory over the NCAA's Citadel Bulldogs on Monday night.
After two nail-biting losses, the Lancers clinched their first win of the 2013 NCAA OUA Tip-Off Classic, and will close out their annual set of exhibition matches tomorrow evening when they will take on the Bulldogs for the second time in as many nights.
Diloreto (London, Ont.) and
Josh Collins (Toronto) each tallied a team-high 14 points for Windsor, while
Lien Phillip (St. Mark's, Grenada) picked up a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Matt Van Scyoc notched a contest-high 14 points on 7-of-14 shooting while Brian White and Tom Koopman each reached double-digits with 10 points a-apiece in a losing cause for The Citadel. Koopman added 10 boards to add a double-double to his stat-sheet.
The Lancers shot just under 35% from the field compared to 37.1% from the Bulldogs, who also outrebounded Windsor 43-35.
The Citadel looked to be well on their way to handing Windsor its third-straight preseason loss after White nailed a layup with 1.8 seconds remaining. A very tight fourth quarter saw the Lancers go on a 16-4 run to take a five-point lead in the latter half of the stanza.
However, The Citadel used an 8-2 run ending with White's lay-up to storm back and re-take the lead before Diloreto's heroics stymied the Bulldogs comeback bid.
