Lancer Football drops road game to No. 2 Gaels

Box Score KINGSTON, On - The Lancer Football team dropped a 49-34 decision to the No. 2 ranked Queen's Gaels on Saturday afternoon in Kingston.

With the loss, the Lancers are now 1-2 on the season as they return home next week to host the newly formed Carleton Ravens (0-2).

Lancer quarterback Austin Kennedy led the offense for the Blue & Gold going 17-for-35 for 207 yards passing and one touchdown. The fourth year senior also added 122 yards on the ground and two rushing touchdowns.Kicker Dan Cerino was perfect on the day going 4-for-4 for converts and 2for-2 for field goals to register 10 points for the Lancers.

Queen's QB Billy McPhee went 14-for-21 for 297 yards and 3 touchdowns. In the air, receiver Scott Macdonnel had 97 yards and one touchdown, while running back Ryan Grandberg led the Gaels running backs with 61 yards and one TD.

The Gaels opened the scoring just two and a half minutes into the game with a 40 yard pass from McPhee to Justin Chapdelaine. It looked to be a tight game as the Lancers scored on the very next drive as Kennedy ran into the end zone, tying the game at seven.

Windsor played a tight game throughout the first quarter, keeping within a touchdown of the Geals. In the second however, a Lancer fumble on a kick return at their own four yard line put the Gaels up 28-10 with six minutes left in the half.

Down 31-10, the Lancers came out strong scoring ten unanswered points to start the second half. Fourth year receiver Evan Pszczonak opened the scoring with a 10 yard pass from Kenndy, before Cerino added a 17 yard field goal to being the Lancers within range, 31-20.

Windosr conitnued to put pointson the board throughout the rest of the game, but it was not enough to catch the second ranked Gaels as they also continued to add to their tally.

Windsor will return home next Saturday, September 14th when they host the Carleton Ravens at 1:00pm on Alumni Field.
