Box Score The Lancer men's hockey team remain undefeated three games into the 2014-15 following a 3-2 victory over the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday night in Guelph.
Â
This is the second win of the season for the Lancers over the Gryphons. Windsor defeated the visiting Gryphons 2-1 in the season opener 10 days ago.
Â
Windsor would open the scoring just over two minutes into the game when
Blake Blondeel beat Guelph's rookie goaltender Andrew D'Agostini to make it 1-0 Lancers.Â
Â
Later in the period, Windsor was called for boarding and tripping just 33 seconds apart, giving the Gryphons a 5-on-3 advantage for nearly a minute and a half. The Lancer defense and strong play of goaltender
Parker Van Buskirk kept the Gryphons at bay and Windsor held a 1-0 lead heading into the intermission. Â
Â
In the second, Gryphon Teal Burns would set up Nicklas Huard who let go a hard shot from the top of the circle to tie things at 1-1. The Gryphons would then take the lead after first year player Andres Kopstal scored to make it 2-1 Guelph.Â
Â
The Lancers would get that one back before the end of the period when
Eric Noel went in all alone, beating D'Agostini to make it a 2-2 game heading to the third.
Â
A turnover by the Gryphons late in the final frame allowed captain
Drew Palmer to score the winning goal for the Blue & Gold.Â
Â
Both Van Buskirk and D'Agostini each faced 31 shots on the night.
Â
Windsor will look to keep their win streak alive next weekend when they return home to host the Laurier Golden Hawks on Friday night and the Toronto Varsity Blues on Saturday. Both games are set to go for 7:30pm and can be seen live at
