Box Score The Lancer women's hockey team lost a tough game 3-2 to the Queen's Gaels in a shoot-out on Saturday afternoon in Kingston, ON.
Â
Heading into their final game before the holiday break, the Lancers are 8-2-3 on the season and in third place in the OUA standings, right behind the second place Gaels (9-2-2).
Â
The Gaels opened the scoring in the first frame on a goal from Mary Coughlin. Queen's added another shortly after as Taryn Pilon scored her eighth of the year on the power play.
Â
In the third period, the Lancers finally found the back of the net on a goal from
Candace Kourounis. Looking for the equalizer, Windsor struck again in the final minute of regulation as
Krystin Lawrence tied the game with 17 seconds left to play.
Â
As neither side could net an overtime winner, the game headed into a shootout. Fifth year forward
Jenny MacKnight and Pilon for the Gaels each converted on their respective attempts, pushing the shootout to a fourth round. The Gaels earned the victory in the extra round as Fiona Lester deposited the game-winner on a nice deke move on Lancer goaltender
Marissa Kozovski.
Â
Final shots for the afternoon totalled 24 to 22 in favour of Queen's, while Kozovski made 21 saves in net for the Blue & Gold and Queen's goaltender Caitlyn Lahonen made 20 saves in the win.
