Seguin makes history in Lancer victory

Kaila Seguin totalled a game-high 19.5 points in Windsor's win over Nipissing on Saturday.
Box Score WINDSOR, Ont.- Kaila Seguin notched a game-high 19.5 points, and the Windsor Lancers women's volleyball team got back in the win column and moved two-games above the .500 mark with a 3-1 (26-24, 20-25, 25-10, 25-15) victory over the Nipissing Lakers on Saturday afternoon at the St. Denis Centre.

Seguin reached the 1,200 point mark on Saturday afternoon, finishing the day with a career 1201.5 points, which is a Windsor Lancers women's volleyball record.

The fifth-year veteran tallied 16 kills, a half-block and three aces while totalling 13 digs in helping the Lancers (9-7) improve to an impressive 7-1 at home. The Windsor native currently ranks sixth in the country with 227 total kills on the year. A former OUA all-star, Seguin's 3.5 kills per set and 4.1 points per set both rank her amongst the top ten in the nation.

Shannon Dean and Emily McCloskey were especially potent  in the victory, picking up 12 and nine kills respectively while refraining from committing a single attack error. Dean currently holds the best hitting percentage in the CIS (.382). McCloskey added three aces and 13 digs as well, while Mackenzie Coyle tallied six kills.

The Lancers worked at a .356 hitting efficiency on Saturday, compared to .173 from the Lakers (0-16) who remain winless in their inaugural OUA season. Tracy Hammerton led Nipissing with 13 kills and 15.0 points. Brittany Ardron and Lindsay Vanderweide garnered 10 kills each in a losing cause for the Lakers.

The Lancers will look to sweep the weekend on Sunday afternoon when they welcome the CIS No. 9 ranked York Lions to the St. Denis Centre. Windsor will honours its graduating athletes in a pre-game ceremony before the game gets underway. Sunday's game will be available live at GoLancers.TV
