Marauders eliminate Lancers from post season

Box Score HAMILTON, Ont. - The Lancer women's volleyball team had their post season come to an end with a 3-1 (18-25, 27-25, 15-25, 14-25) loss to the McMaster Marauders in the OUA quarter-finals on Saturday in Hamilton, ON.

Windsor finished the regular season with a 10-9 record, a third place finish in the west division, and became the first Lancer women's volleyball team to qualify for the post season since the 2005-06 OUA championship team.

Windsor jumped out to a 5-2 lead early in the first set before McMaster battled back to tie the game at eight and then lead 16-11 at the technical time out. Using some solid serving, McMaster maintained their lead and took the set 25-18.

The second set was a bit of a roller coaster as the Lancers came out strong and held a comfortable 16-8 lead at the technical time out. From there the Marauders took control and managed to tie the game 17-17. They carried that momentum to a 24-20 lead and looked like they were going to take the set, when Windsor battled back and tied the game at 24. With the momentum clearly having shifted, the Lancers carried it to a 27-25 win to tie the game at one set a piece.

The Marauders controlled the third set from the start, jumping out to a quick 9-4 lead en route to a 16-7 advantage at the technical. The Marauder defense doubled up on Lancer fifth year hitter Kaila Seguin and the Blue & Gold struggled to gain any momentum. The Marauders took a 2-1 lead with a 25-15 set victory.

In the fourth, McMaster again maintained control of the set from the start and won the match 25-14 to end the Lancers season.
