The Lancer men's basketball team lost a tough match 89-84 to the visiting York Lions on Saturday night at the St. Denis Centre as part of the Lancers annual Breast Cancer Awareness Day.
Â
With the loss, No. 5 Windsor remains tied with the Western Mustangs for first place in the OUA west division, while the Lions improve to above the .500 mark and are now 8-7 on the year.
Â
The Lancers were led by
Mitch Farrell with 18 points, while
Khalid Abdel-Gabar chipped in 15 and
Rotimi Osuntola Jr. registered his sixth straight double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Defensively,
Brad Parker also contributed 11 boards in the loss.
Â
York had a solid showing from Nick Tufegdzich who had a game high 30 points and 14 rebounds that included 10 defensive boards. Nathan Culbreath also had a solid showing for York with 23 points.
Â
Despite being down by 22 at the half, the Lancers came storming back in the second half to eventually take a one point lead late in the fourth quarter. However, foul trouble and a few struggles at the line prevented the Lancers from maintaining the lead, giving the Lions the win.
Â
The Lancers will now hit the road for two weeks and will face the Laurentian Voyageurs on Friday night and Nipissing Lakers on Saturday. Both games are scheduled for 8:00pm and can be seen live on
