Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Men's Volleyball opens season with pair of loses

In their opening weekend of regular season play, the Lancer men's volleyball team lost a pair of road games to the York Lions and Nipissing Lakers.

In a re-match of last season's OUA bronze medal game, Windsor lost 3-1 (22-25, 20-25, 25-21, 18-25) to the Lions in their season opener before being swept 3-0 (20-25, 24-26, 23-25) to the Lakers on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Lancers start the season with an 0-2 record and will head on the road again next weekend.

On Friday against the Lions, both teams tallied five aces each but York dominated the other stats, outnumbering the Lancers in points, kills, blocks, assists and digs.

Down two sets to none, Windsor grabbed a 16-11 lead at the technical time-out and rod their momentum to a 25-21 set win.

Josh Edwards led the way for the Lancers with 11 kills and 15.5 points.

On Saturday, the scrappy Lancers gave Nipissing everything they could handle, but the Lakers took set one 25-20.

In the second, despite trailing a few times to the Lancers throughout the set, the Lakers came away with a 26-24 triumph to put the pressure on Windsor to answer.

The Lancers did just that, grabbing leads throughout and even late, they were up 18-14, but Nipissing stormed back and claimed the final set 25-23 to pick up the sweep.

Windsor will now travel to Guelph to take on the Gryphons in a Halloween match-up.
