The Lancer women's hockey team opened the 2015-16 season with a 7-1 loss against the reigning OUA & CIS champion Western Mustangs Thursday night in London.
The Mustangs built a six goal lead through two and a half periods before the Blue & Gold got on the board.
Windsor's lone goal came late in the third period when two sport athlete
Krystin Lawrence fired the puck past Mustang goaltender Kelly Campbell.
Despite the score, the Mustangs only narrowly out-shot the Lancers 25-23. Windsor picked up their game in the third period racking up 16 of their shots in the final twenty minutes.
Marissa Kozovski and rookie Hannah Slater shared the duties in net.
The Lancers will now break for Thanksgiving and return to action next weekend when they travel to Waterloo for a pair of games against the Waterloo Warriors and Laurier Golden Hawks.
